As part of our commitment to offering the highest levels of service, we will be migrating all of our client’s hosting packages to support PHP 7.
Many of our client’s websites are currently running on hosting that supports PHP 5.6. Until about a year ago, version 5.6 was the latest stable version of the programming language. PHP 7 was developed to run much faster than it’s predecessors and as a result websites running on the new version show improved load speeds.
Due to the significant improvements offered, we have decided that, where possible, we will migrate our clients to PHP 7. Some websites may have features that are incompatible with the new version. If this is the case we will be in touch to discuss possible solutions.
As we will need to assess each website for compatibility with the new version, we will be carrying out the migration on a case by case basis. This will of course take some time to do. Clients who are signed up to our monthly updates and backups service will be the first to be migrated. If you are not already signed up but would like to receive a priority migration, please get in touch via our contact page.
What is PHP?
PHP is a programming language used primarily for building websites. It is most commonly used on Linux servers and is a core element of the WordPress content management system.
Will my website be affected?
All websites using our Linux hosting service will receive the update. You should see an improvement in the load speed of your website once the work is complete.
